Ways That Sugar Can Affect Your Health
Most of us know that sugar consumption can lead to obesity and diabetes, but did you know it can have many other adverse affects on our health?
I went to a naturopath a few years ago as I was having trouble with chronic infections. One of the first things she told me was to cut out all sugar, since it depresses the immune system. If we want to have an optimal immune system then cutting out all sugar is one important step to do.
Sugar contains no vitamins, minerals or fiber. There is no nutrition or health benefit from it. Yet sugar is added to almost everything from ketchup to salad dressings to pasta sauces. It's not just in the obvious things, but in almost everything if you really investigate.
Another thing sugar does is feed candida, a fungal infection. In fact if you crave sugar you could have candida.
Sugar can be addictive and of course can contribute to tooth decay and affect the blood sugar levels. It can rob a person of energy, may contribute to aging and cause the stomach to produce too much acid.
It's not good for children either, as sugar can contribute to hyperactivity, anxiety, and lack of concentration.
Sugar an also cause free radical formation in the body, and may contribute to migranes and high blood pressure.
While cutting out sugar entirely may not be possible, it certainly makes sense to drastically reduce sugar intake. Fruit is full of natural sugar which is a lot different than granulated sugar or high fructose corn syrup found in many processed foods.
